QUESTION:
I wanted to inquire if this mat material is non slip if it were put down on concrete? I'm looking for mats for around the pool, to step on while drying off.
Can you tell me if this material would work or which ones that you sell would work for this type of scenario?
ANSWER:
It is common for these mats to be put on the top of the ceramic tiles that are a lot more slippery than the concrete.
What holds the mats down so they would not move around is not as much friction but force of gravity.
VinWave weights about 1.1 pounds per square foot so if you have VinWave mat that is say 3x10 feet it will be 30+ pounds and this is not that easy to kick around.
VinTube and VinLoop are 0.8 per square foot.
All mats on this page can be used around the pool. VinLoop, VinWave and VinTube we manufacture ourselves so they will have the price advantage over other products there but if other manufacturers have something that you need - wecan order these products for you
Whatever it is indoor or outdoor pool - we got the matting for you. Matting we carry is designed for use around pools, spas, locker rooms and showers. They are also perfect for a variety of not above mentioned wet area applications, including kennels, greenhouses residential or commercial building entrances, warehouse, office and so on.. . All roll off wet area runners provide an easy-drain design that drains water or other liquids onto the surface beneath the mat. This will keep your floors dry and comfortable as well as prevent puddles from forming. Texture of the surface will provide additional traction even. Meanwhile foam and rubber products will retain some of their anti slip properties even being wet or submerged under the surface of the water.
Keep in mind that installing mats under the water whatever it is stairs or the bottom of the pool would work only if you have some kind of system in place that would hold them down. Though most wet area runners mats weight nearly 1 pound per square foot they weight only a fraction of that when submerged under the water. They will float away from the area you intended to have them and only way to make them stay is to attach them to the surface.
Another benefit of having mats in the outside pool area or on the deck is reducing feet exposure to heat. It would still be hot but mat has lower density thus absorb less heat than concrete and has fewer contact points with the foot so it is not nearly as hot as walking on the concrete.
MattingExperts brand matting
We import several kinds of the liquid draining mats ourselves. Therefore we offer really good deals on VinLoop, VinWave and VinTube. We buy them in 4 foot wide and about 33 feet long rolls and cut them down to your specifications from there. So if you need 3 feet wide runner, keep in mind that you should only order it if you need it to be 3 feet wide. We would have to charge you for the whole width and we will cut it down from there. There is a possibility that we will be ordering them in other widths in the future but as of today (July 2016) we have no plans of doing so. Even while charging you for 4 foot width we are very price competitive and ordering other widths would require a much larger warehouse than we currently have.
VinLoop - is the mat that we have been importing for a while now so we have wider selection of the colors available. Some of them we do not have a large stock of and may not be able to fulfill really large order right away but we can order them in and get them within 2-3 months. We can get them in pretty much any color but minimum order quantities would apply and we may request 30-50% deposit on custom color orders.
WinWave - is a sturdy and heavier than average shower/locker room runner. Weight provides stability for the mat and even given that they are very likely to be put on the wet floor. Friction between mat and the floor surface would be reduced by liquids but the mass of the rug will require more force to move. So a gentle kick will not set it flying. 4 foot wide VinWave runner has nicely finished sides and when slicing along the mat we end up having other side not as perfect as the one that comes out of machine. We take our time and trim off as nice as we can to get it close to factory-like finish.
WinTube - perhaps the most comfortable mat to walk on. It is made out of soft shallow vinyl tubes going along the length of the mat glued onto the same kind of tubes on the bottom perpendicular to ones on the top. Tubes on the bottom spaced out 1 and 5/8 between centers. We are looking to introduce a lot more colors of this mat some time by the end of next year.
Beveled nosing
We can attach nosing to VinLoop and VinWave draining mats. Beveled nosing provides even more stability and reduces tripping hazard on your deck in the locker room or near the pool. In most cases it is no necessary for the mats to have such edging but if you planning having something roll along or across the mat especially that has small casters - these may help. We do it here in the shop and unfortunately we have not yet mastered mitering and joining the edging at the corners so we can install them only on one or 2 opposite edges. It will be extra 3 dollars per each linear foot of the nosing. Installation on the long sides may require additional lead time. We can do only up to 6 feet per application and glue requites some time to cure
