COMMERCIAL MATTING EDGES

Types and shapes of edges for commercial entry mats

ENTRY MATS EXPLAINED
Raised beveled edges:
are available on some of our mats. The idea behind these is to trap excessive water or snow in a “water dam” to protect surrounding floors. In general these mats are made in molds tha limit available sizes to sizes of the mold.

Flat Edge:
Majority of entry mats have regular - flat edges. If you have ore busy entrance - choose matting with more yarn that would enable mat to contain more moisture. In the vast majority situations such mat would be enough for moisture and dirt containment, however in by more busy entrances under foul weather conditions people may be bringing in more moisture that mat could possibly handle and water would run off the mat. If this happens too often – you need possibly need a larger mat that would absorb more moisture and/or mat with raised edges.

Carpet to Edge:
A fashionable mat choice has carpeted edges matching the mat surface. In this case the same material from the face of the mat is used on the edges as well. Perfect for someone desiring a more tailored look than that of a rubber or vinyl edge mat.

Matching Color Vinyl Edge:
Some mats with vinyl backing may have vinyl edges that are dyed to match the color of the mat. Vinyl is unique in that it is able to be dyed unlike rubber which is not. This type of edge appeals to those in search of a very attractive mat to enhance their overall decor.

Raw Edge
Larger mats used in foyers, vestibules and lobbies are often used like wall-to-wall carpet. Since this type of mat will be up against a wall or tucked under a door jamb they do not need to have nosing. Even if the edges will be exposed to foot traffic they do not necessarily need nosing. For example if used inside a reception desk area, the mat will not be a trip hazard if its edges will be underneath large furniture.
