Recessed foyer (or area) mats are designed to be placed in a recessed area that prevents water and debris from continuing into your establishment. Unless you have hundreds or thousands of people using the entrance every day, you may want to consider other less expensive commercial or industrial mats that would be appropriate for foyer applications. If you do have a lot of people using the entrance, then heavy duty mats and a recessed foyer area are the way to go. A recessed foyer combined with the appropriate recessed foyer mat will reduce unwanted debris in your office, store or plant dramatically. It is best to plan installation of the recessed foyer mat before the recess is done so you plan for the thickness of the particular mat that you have chosen. This way you ensure a smooth transition from the floor to the mat and from mat back to the floor reducing tripping hazards. The vinyl mats are not any less durable than the aluminum ones. The difference is that in most aluminum recessed area mats you can replace only the inserts without having to replace the whole mat.
